Meanwhile you can use the free chart service on astro.com for awhile. I am a Mac fanatic so here are the three software programs I have used and recommend.

Download AstroWin for progressions, solar arcs, transits, solar and lunar returns, dual cosmodynes, planetary hours, diurnals, primary directions, astro-relocation maps, AND numerology.
Download Transits for checking your daily transits - with interpretations. Now available in an Android phone version as well.
Download SE_Aspectarian for calculating planetary aspectarians and exact aspect times.
Download SE_Cycles for calculating planetary aspectarians and exact aspect times - and more.
Download Election Helper for electional astrology (including helio and asteroids) and to see what is happening minute-by-minute.
Download Horary Helper for horary astrology calculations and tutorials.
Download Midpoint for investigating midpoints.

To install: unzip the .zip file, then run setup.exe OR if the downloaded file is a .exe file, then just run it.

In order to properly use these programs, you will need to know the longitude, latitude, and time zone for the birth date and location you are working with. You may get this information online by visiting Alois Treindl's Astrodienst Atlas Database web site. Or call ACS at 1-800-888-9983 or Astrolabe at 1-800-843-6682 and order The American Atlas and/or The International Atlas for about $40 each.

If you get an error message when you try to display a chart wheel, then you must manually copy the appropriate file, HORARY.TTF, MATCHMKR.TTF, or ASTRO123.TTF, from your c:windowssystem directory or your application directory into your c:windowsfonts directory.

The end and new beginnings

To support astrology for everyone who wishes to study and practice this ancient and beautiful art, I have decided to change the licensing of Astrocalc. As a result, it’s now licensed as non-commercial free software. This decision is at the core the conclusion of an 18-months transit of Pluto to my natal Sun. If you are interested in reading in more depth about how this came about, I have described the whole process in the article “Free astrology software as in Astrology for Everyone – How Astrocalc transformed from commercial to free software”. Therefore, Astrocalc is now free to download and use without any restrictions at all.

Upon taking this move, I would also like to reach out to the user community for some support in return. I have put together some suggestions of How you can help this project. In summary, I see sharing as a mechanism of balancing the dynamic force of change and development. Astrology is the big devotion of my life and now seems to be the right time to take that devotion to a new level. In essence, by giving back more of what it has given me.

Astrocalc 6.5 is the first release of our now free astrology software, suitable for beginners as well as professionals. It is easy to use, covers most traditional astrological calculations from natal charts to transits, progressions, returns (of all major planets), midpoints, synastry etc. It can also do most Huber calculations and charts. Over the years, Astrocalc has found its way to well over 10 000 astrology students and professionals since its first release as commercial software in 1982. Starting with Astrocalc 6.5, we are now changing licensing to release it under the ‘Astrocalc Astrology for Everyone License’. In short, this means that it is free to download and use, in full functionality and with no time limit – for everyone, for one and for all.

A note of caution

If you are using any of our software Astrogeography, Transit Forecaster or Starword in version 6.2 and are dependent on the functionality of any of these? Please, hold off from installing Astrocalc 6.5 on the same computer. Due to circumstances that largely are out of our control, installing the new version of Astrocalc 6.5 will prevent these programs from running properly. This holds true until these programs have been updated and their compatibility are in align with Astrocalc 6.5, but this may take some time still.
